Plunkett steps down as Cullman head coach

Cullman, AL – After one year at the helm of the Cullman Bearcats football program head coach Matt Plunkett is stepping down. He lead the Cats to a 3-7 record including wins over playoff teams Jasper and Albertville and close losses to postseason qualifiers Mortimer Jordan and Athens.

Plunkett accepted the Bearcats head coaching job following the 2017 season, taking over for longtime Cullman head coach Mark Britton.  Britton lead the Bearcats program for 17 seasons, retiring as the winningest coach in program history.

The Arab High School graduate moved north to Cullman after spending five seasons as the head coach at Gardendale.  He lead the Rockets to a combined 37-22 record including 10-3 mark in 2015 and four consecutive playoff appearances.

Plunkett will retain his teaching position at CHS until he lands his next position on the sidelines.
