Jasper takes down Cullman in season opener

Jasper, AL – The third raked Jasper Vikings slipped past rival Cullman 21-19 Thursday night at Ki-Ro Gambrell Field.

The season opening victory marked the first Vikings win over the Bearcats since 2010.

The Viking offense outgained the Cats with 372 yards, 148 on the ground, 224 through the air, compared to Cullman’s 285 all-purpose yards.

Kaden Shelton lead the Vikings on the ground with 74 yards and a score on 14 carries while hauling in a 41 yard touchdown reception. Xavier Waldrop lead the Jasper receiving corps with four grabs for 64 yards and a TD. Quarterback Parker Sawyer completed 17 of 22 passes for 183 yards and a score through the air.

Jasper takes the week off before stepping into 5A region 7 play September 6th, hosting Walker County rival Dora (1-0) at Ki-Ro Gambrell Field.

Cullman travels to Morris to take on 5A Mortimer Jordan (0-1) before opening 6A region 7 play September 6th against the Decatur Red Raiders at Woodard Stadium.
