No. 4 Thompson rallies to knock off top ranked Hoover

Alabaster, AL – For the third time in the 7A region 3 powers’ last five meetings the Thompson Warriors (3-0, 1-0) have walked away with a win over the powerhouse Hoover Bucs (2-1, 0-1). The fourth ranked Warriors extended their winning streak over their neighbors to the north to two games with a 48-30 come-from-behind win over the top ranked Bucs Friday night at Warrior Stadium.

Mark Freeman’s Warriors erased a 17-0 Hoover lead to take an early advantage in the 7A region 3 race. Thompson senior signal caller Sawyer Pate completed 19 of 25 passes for for 199 yards and three touchdowns through the air and one on the ground. Running back Jarrett Crockett rattled off three scores on 148 yards rushing while Michael Pettway paced the Warrior receiving corps with 5 grabs for 80 yards.

Before leaving the game with a foot injury, Hoover quarterback and Ole Miss commit Robby Ashford connected on 16 of 29 passes for 258 yards while adding another 129 yards on the ground. Dylan Betts-Pauly ran for 22 yards and a score, Jamari Buyoe hauled in three receptions for 69 yards and a pair of touchdown grabs.

Thompson travels to Herdmont Park next Friday night to take on the 1-1 Oak Mountain Eagles. The Bucs open their home slate by welcoming the fifth ranked Hewitt-Trussville Huskies to the Hoover Met.
