5th ranked Oxford upsets No. 2 Pinson Valley 34-33

Pinson, AL – For the first time in the Patrick Nix era the Pinson Valley Indians (3-2, 2-1) walked off the turf at Willie Adams Stadium without a victory. The fifth ranked Oxford Yellow Jackets put an end to the Indians 15 game home winning streak Friday night taking down the defending 6A state champions 34-33.

Oxford overcame a 19-0 first quarter deficit to hand the Indians their first defeat against a 6A opponent since falling to the Austin Black Bears in the second round of the 2016 post season.

The Jackets improved to 5-0, 2-0 in 6A region 6 play. The win moved Oxford in the drivers seat in what is arguably 6A’s most grueling region. Keith Etheredge’s squad currently sits a game behind the Gardendale Rockets (5-0, 3-0) with a road trip to surging Shades Valley (2-2, 1-1) and home contests against Huffman (2-3, 1-2), traditional power Clay-Chalkville (3-2, 0-2) and the Rockets remaining in the regular season.

The Jackets were lead on offense by junior signal caller Trey Higgins who connected on 16 of 24 passes for 294 yards and four scores. Linebacker Delvon accounted for three of the Yellow Jackets five takeaways, picking off Pinson quarterback Barry White three times.

Oxford takes the week off next Friday before returning to region play October 4th, playing host to the Huffman Vikings at Lamar Field. Pinson takes a bye in week five as well before welcoming the region leading Gardendale Rockets to Willie Adams Stadium.
