Spain Park squeaks past Shades Valley in season finale

Hoover, AL – The Spain Park Jaguars closed out 2019 with a 14-7 win over the 6A Shades Valley Mounties Friday night at Bob Finley Field.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Austin Hutcheson put the Jags on the board scoring on a seven yard run from the wildcat. Senior running back Michael Callens put the game on ice late in the third scoring from the Mountie 32, in route to a 186 yard rushing performance. Shades Valley running back A.J. Williams lit up the scoreboard for the visitors late in the 4th pulling the Mounties within a score. Valley had a opportunity to tie the contest after forcing a Jaguar punt with under a minute to play until Jake Horton surged through the Mountie line, sacking Shades Valley quarterback Earl Woods.

The Jaguars capped their 2019 campaign at 4-6 with wins over 6A foes Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and Shades Valley and region rivals Hewitt-Trussville and Oak Mountain.

Shades Valley closed out David Partridge’s fifth season in Irondale at 3-7, recording victories over Jackson-Olin, Huffman and Pell City.
