Briarwood roars in to round 2 with victory over Marbury

Birmingham, AL – The 8th ranked Briarwood Christian Lions (10-1) punched their ticket to the second round of the AHSAA playoffs for the fifth consecutive season with a 42-26 victory over the Marbury Bulldogs (6-5) Friday night at Lion’s Pride Stadium.

Sophomore receiver Luke Reebals accounted for four of the Lions five offensive scores; rushing in from 21, 55 and 12 yards and hauling in a 63 yard touchdown toss from Christopher Vizzina. Senior running back Luke Prewett added a first quarter scoring scamper from inside the Bulldog five and Chase Travis came down with a blocked put in the fourth, falling into the endzone from the two yard line.

Reebals finished the night with 168 yards on 16 carries, Vizzina completed 4-of-7 throws for 103 yards including a 63 yard touchdown toss to Reebals.

Marbury closed out Jason Wallace’s first season in Deatsville at 6-5, advancing to the the postseason for only the second time in the last 10 seasons.

The Region 4 champion Lions travel three hours south to Clarke County next Friday night to take on the Jackson Aggies in round two of the AHSAA playoffs. The Aggies are sitting at 6-5 after being forced to forfeit a pair of early season region contests.
