Philip Bailey named Jasper Vikings head football coach

Jasper, AL – Two weeks after former Jasper head coach Bryan Moore resigned to accept the top job at Hartselle High, the Vikings have landed their next leader on the gridiron.

Jasper announced Tuesday night that current Vikings offensive coordinator Philip Bailey will be elevated to lead the 6A program in 2020.

Bailey will embark on his first year as a head coach leading a program that spent much of 2019 ranked No. 1 in class 5A and rolled to a perfect regular season before being bounced in the second round of the AHSAA playoffs by eventual state champion Central-Clay County.

Before joining the Jasper staff prior to the 2018 season the Auburn native and Lee-Scott Academy graduate served as the offensive coordinator and director of strength and conditioning at Tennessee’s Maryville College before joining the Eufaula Tigers coaching staff.

Jasper will be making the jump from class 5A back to 6A in 2020. The Vikings will join arguably one of the toughest regions in the state including perennial title contenders Pinson Valley, Clay-Chalkville and Mortimer Jordan along with Gardendale, Minor and Jackson-Olin.

Bailey will lead his team on the field for the first time August 21st as the Vikings play host to 2019 1A state runner-up Mars Hill Bible School at Ki-Ro / Gambrell Field.
