Hoover Defensive Coordinator Chad McGehee named James Clemens head coach

Madison, AL – PrepsNet has learned that Hoover defensive coordinator Chad McGehee will be the next head coach of the James Clemens Jets.

McGehee, who will be the third head coach in Jets program history, takes over for former James Clemens coach Wade Waldrop who resigned after the 2020 season to take the same position at Florence High School.

James Clemens, who is coming off an 8-3 campaign in 2020, has posted a 20-1 record in region play, including a pair of region crowns over the last three seasons.

This will be the former University of Alabama safety’s second head coaching stint in North Alabama.  He spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons at the helm of the Elkmont football program where he lead the 3A Red Devils to a combined 9-11 record.  The team’s 6-4 mark in 2005 was the Devil’s first winning season in five years.

Before joining the Hoover staff he spent time as the defensive coordinator at several Georgia programs including North Paulding, North Cobb, Parkview and Grayson.  In his first head coaching stint, he spent a par of seasons at Metro Atlanta’s Kennasaw Mountain High School where he lead the Mustangs to a 1-19 mark.
