AHSAA Standouts Report for the 31st Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Basketball Classic

Montgomery, AL – Alabama and Mississippi’s All-Star basketball squads will be rolling into Montgomery Wednesday to begin preparations for Friday’s 31st Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl MultiPlex. The girls’ game will be at 5 p.m., and the boys’ All-Star contest will follow at 7 p.m.

Jamie Lee, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA), announced Alabama’s coaches and teams February 28. The teams, consisting of 12 boys and 12 girls, were selected from coaches’ nominations by the AHSADCA All-Star Selection Committee.

The teams will go through workouts Wednesday night and Thursday with a walk-thru set for Friday. Both games will be televised live with WOTM TV producing the contests over the AHSAA TV Network’s cable affiliates. Both games will also be live-streamed over the NFHS Network and at wotm.tv.

The Alabama girls’ team are being coached by Spain Park’s Mike Chase and Madison Academy’s Alissa Flowers. Cold Springs coach Tammy West will serve as the girls’ team administrative coach. The Alabama boys’ coaches Steve Ward of Huffman and Shumbe Hunter of Williamson. Thompson coach Dru Powell is the administrative coach.

University of Tennessee signee Karolina Striplin of Geneva County High School.

Ramsay 6-foot-11 center KeShawn Murphy, Lee-Huntsville 6-6 guard Kaleb Brown and 6-4 guard Jerdarrian “J.D.” Davison of Calhoun highlight the players on the Alabama boys’ squad. Davidson, an Alabama signee and a highlight reel with every game played, headlines the Alabama squad. The guard averaged over 32 ppg this past season scoring 45 in an 81-77 Class 2A semifinal loss to eventual state champion Midfield last week at the AHSAA’s 99th State Basketball Championships. Murphy, a Mississippi State signee, led Ramsay to the Class 5A state finals.   Also on the boys’ squad are 6-10 center Rayquan Taylor of Carver-Montgomery and 6-8 forward Bryson Hall of Tuscaloosa County and high-scoring Hartselle guard and Liberty University commit Brodie Peebles.

Alabama girls’ squad is loaded at the guard position where Anniston guard Allasha Dudley, Mae Jemison guard Saniah Parker and Birmingham-Carver guard Randrea Wright each led their teams to the state finals. Dudley earned Class 4A state tourney MVP leading Anniston to the state title. Wright earned 5A MVP leading the Rams to the state crown over Mae Jemison. She finished with 35 points in the finals as did Parker for the Jaguars. Also listed among the guards is Nya Valentine of McGill-Toolen and Amiya Payne of Hewitt-Trussville, each making strong appearances in the state tourney.

Also competing in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game for Alabama’s girls’ squad are post players Grace Watson, a Delta State signee, who led Hazel Green to the school’s fourth straight 6A state title last week. Also on the squad are Tennessee signees Karoline Striplin of Geneva County and Sara Puckett of Muscle Shoals.

Alabama’s girls won last year’s game at Mississippi 70-63, the Alabama boys won 118-97. Alabama holds a 16-14 edge in both series, which date back to 1991.
