Rob Carter named Sylacauga head football coach

Sylacauga, AL – Sylacauga officially named Beauregard’s Rob Carter the Aggies’ 21st head football coach Wednesday afternoon.

Carter takes over for former Sylacauga coach Andrew Zow who lead the Aggies to a 7-3 record in his lone season at the helm of the 5A program.  The former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback resigned in January to join Dabo Sweeney’s staff at Clemson University

The Auburn University graduate and brother of Fairhope Pirates head coach Tim Carter, has served as the head football coach and athletic director at Beauregard since 2014.  During his seven year tenure, he lead the Hornets to a 51-27 record including a pair of region titles, five post season appearances, three double-digit win seasons and the program’s first state title in 2016.  He leaves the Lee County school as the second winningest head coach in program history.

This will be the second head coaching position for Carter, who has been in the profession since 1993 when he got his start as an assistant at Russell County.  He remained with the Warriors for six seasons before serving on the Lanett Panthers staff from 1999-2001.  After that, he spent four years at Crenshaw Christian before joining Smitty Grider’s staff at Beauregard where he served as an assistant and offensive coordinator before being elevated to head coach prior to the 2014 season.

Carter takes over a Sylacauga program who has advanced to the AHSAA postseason in each of the nine seasons.
