No. 2 Auburn varsity lacrosse claws past Huntsville 13-6

Auburn, AL – The 2nd ranked Auburn High School Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse squad returned to the friendly confines of Duck Samford Stadium Saturday, beating the Huntsville Panthers (5-3) 13-6. Auburn is now 5-0 joining the top ranked Hoover Bucs (7-0) as the state’s lone unbeaten teams at the midpoint of the season with the heart of the schedule approaching.

Auburn seems to have cured some of its early-season offensive woes, as seven different Auburn players found the scoring column against the Panthers. Seniors Gabe Forthofer and Joey McGinty led the way with three goals apiece, Forthofer added four assists for the Tigers.

Auburn jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and expanded their advantage to 5-2 at the half.  Auburn added four more goals in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.  The Auburn defense has been the strength of the undefeated Tigers this season and that trend continued Saturday.  Auburn dominated the game in the hustle-statistic category, causing eight Huntsville turnovers and picking up 44 ground balls. Offensively, the tone was set by the duo of Yates Holley and Graham Young, who controlled 16 faceoffs for Auburn on the day.

Also, on Saturday, the Auburn Lacrosse Junior Varsity hosted an exhibition game with the newly formed Birmingham Magic lacrosse club and cruised to a 12-0 victory over the newcomers to the Alabama lacrosse scene.

The Tigers travel to Madison Saturday afternoon to take on the Bob Jones Patriots (0-5).  Huntsville returns to action Wednesday, March 24th, against Bob Jones.
