Auburn varsity lacrosse knocks off Bob Jones 15-5

Auburn, AL – The Auburn High School varsity boys’ lacrosse team cruised to a 15-5 win over the Bob Jones Patriots (0-6) Saturday afternoon in Madison.  The victory improved the 2nd ranked Tigers to 6-0 on the season, while No. 13 Bob Jones remains winless in Alabama high school lacrosse play.

For the Tigers, it was the versatility of senior Joey McGinty that set the tone in the game. McGinty, who has been one of Auburn’s best defenders, was called on to help his offensive teammates and scorched the Patriots for seven goals. The standout senior didn’t shoulder the entire Auburn offensive burden, as five others contributed to Auburn’s offensive dominance. Ryan Torres and Preston Cole each scored twice, while Robb Fulghum, Harrison Waid and Gabe Forthofer each chipped in one goal apiece.

Overall, it was Auburn’s aggressive and opportunistic team defense that ruled the day. Auburn caused 10 Bob Jones turnovers, picked up 36 ground balls, and stymied Bob Jones’ efforts to take quality shots. When the Patriots did take shots, goalie John Stanwick seemed to be there time after time, notching seven saves on the day in a game where the Tigers were never threatened.

Auburn returns to action Saturday afternoon in Birmingham, facing off against defending state champion Mountain Brook (5-3) in a top five matchup at Spartan Stadium.  Bob Jones travels to Hoover to take on the No. 1 ranked Hoover Bucs (7-0) Saturday, April 3rd at 1:00 PM.
