Auburn varsity LAX doubles up Homewood to improve to 8-0

Auburn, AL – The Auburn High School varsity boys lacrosse squad took down the 10th ranked Homewood Patriots 14-7 Saturday afternoon at Duck Samford Stadium.  The No. 1 ranked Tigers improve to 8-0 and remain the lone undefeated team in Alabama high school lacrosse.

The loss drops Homewood to 4-6 on the season.

Auburn got off to a slow start and found themselves behind 3-0 in the first quarter, perhaps looking ahead to a match-up with 2nd ranked Hoover Sunday afternoon.  After settling down, the senior-laden Auburn squad clawed their way back in a physical first half to carry a 6-4 advantage into the break.  The two teams swapped two goals each in the 3rd period but the Tigers owned the fourth, lighting up the scoreboard with six goals and cruising to a seven point victory over the visitors from Oxmoor Valley.

Auburn’s leading scorer was senior Joey McGinty, who dominated the contest and lead all scorers with nine goals. Sam Snyder, Gabe Forthofer and Preston Cole also contributed to Auburn’s offensive tally. In the ever-important hustle-statistic category, Auburn picked up 46 ground balls and caused 10 Homewood turnovers.
