Auburn drops Spain Park & Helena in LAX doubleheader

Hoover, AL – The Auburn High School varsity boy’s lacrosse squad travelled to Birmingham Sunday and in workmanlike fashion, downed Spain Park (4-8) 19-8.  The Tigers also took on Helena in a game rescheduled from earlier in the season due to inclement weather and downed the upstart Huskies (0-12) 16-4.

The No. 1 raked Tigers are now 11-0 on the season.

The wins on Sunday marked a milestone for Auburn high school boy’s lacrosse. This year’s team is now the winningest team in the history of the program, with one regular season game remaining and a playoff appearance yet to come.

In the game against Spain Park, the recipe for offensive success over the last few outings was again on full display, with eight Auburn players making their way into the scoring column. Seven of Auburn’s 19 goals were made possible by assists from other players. Junior Preston Cole led all scorers with five goals, followed by Robb Fulghum and Joey McGinty with four apiece. Other Auburn scorers included Gabe Forthofer, Harrison Waid, Sam Snyder, Cade Wagoner and Yates Holley.
The story of the game was that Spain Park struggled to have many meaningful possessions. Auburn dominated the faceoffs 22-7, mostly at the hands of FOGO Graham Young. Combine the number of faceoffs won with the seven caused turnovers and it became a long day for the Jaguars.

After closing out Spain Park the Tigers packed up and traveled 12 miles southwest for the second game of the day against the Helena Huskies. Because of the circumstances of playing two games back-to-back, Auburn was able to utilize much of its junior varsity squad in relief and controlled the game with Helena, Alabama’s newest high school lacrosse team, from start to finish.

For the second time in 13 days, Auburn will take on the second ranked team in the state. The Tigers close out the regular season against the No. 2 Vestavia Hills Rebels (10-1) Saturday, April 24th at 11:00 AM.
