Arab shuts out Cullman in jamboree clash

Arab, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights showed of their new artificial turf playing surface in style with a 7-0 preseason win over the Cullman Bearcats Thursday night at the Arab City Schools SportsPlex.  Knights running back Drake Franklin bolted across the goal line from three yards out with 5:20 remaining in the contest to notch the game’s lone score.  On the Bearcat’s last offensive possession the Arab defense stiffened, holding the Cats out of the endzone on 4th and goal to seal the jamboree victory.

The Varsity 6A rivals played the first half of the preseason matchup with the school’s junior varsity squads closing out the jamboree’s final two quarters.  No score was officially kept for the JV portion of the night but the Bearcats managed a touchdown and a field goal in the matchup.

The game marked Cullman head coach Oscar Glasscock’s first trip back to Brindlee Mountain since he lead the Knights program to a 1-9 record in 2018.

Cullman owns a 40-18 advantage all-time against the Knights (not including Thursday’s contest) in a series that dates back to 1922.  The Knights and Bearcats last meet on the gridiron in 2015 with Cullman coming out on top 56-7.

Both teams step into class 7A to officially kick off the 2021 season next Thursday night.  Lee Ozmint’s Arabian Knights welcome Marshall County rival Albertville to the SportsPlex while the Bearcats host the Grissom Tigers at Oliver Woodard Stadium.
