Guntersville knocks off Fort Payne 28-3 in preseason tune-up

Guntersville, AL – The Guntersville Wildcats wrapped fall camp with a 28-3 preseason jamboree victory over 6A Fort Payne Thursday night at Chorba-Lee Stadium.

Guntersville holds a 25-19 advantage all-time over Fort Payne (not including Thursday night’s preseason contest) in a series that dates back to 1923.  The Cats last meet on the gridiron in 1999 with Guntersville coming out on top 20-15.

Lance Reese’s Guntersville Wildcats open 2021 as the 5th ranked team in class 5A.

Guntersville travels to Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl next Thursday night to take on the defending 4A state champion and second ranked Handley Tigers in the annual AHSAA Kickoff Classic.  The Cats return home to host arch rival Arab August 26th before stepping into region play September 3rd at Fairview.  Fort Payne officially opens their 2021 campaign next Friday night, welcoming the Athens Golden Eagles to Wildcat Stadium.
