Hewitt-Trussville storms past Pinson Valley 49-27

Trussville, AL – The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies took down reigning 6A state champion Pinson Valley 49-27 Friday night to open the 2021 high school football season.  

The victory marked the Huskies ninth straight victory over their Northeast Jefferson County neighbors.  Hewitt now holds a 25-7 advantage over the Indians in a series that dates back to 1970.

After a slow start the Huskies, ranked 4th in Class 7A, led by a point, 7-6 at the end of the first quarter before coming to life and lighting up the Husky Field scoreboard for 28 points in the second period to effectively put the game on ice heading into the break. 

Huskies signal caller Cade Ott Carruth passed for 333 yards, completing 20-of-28 passes and three scores while adding a pair of touchdowns on the ground.  Recent Auburn commit Omari Kelly hauled in six receptions for 95 yards and carried the ball for 36 yards on four carries.  Clay-Chalkville transfer Jordan McCants closed out the game with eight catches for 115 yards. 

Hewitt-Trussville will welcome another top tough 6A opponent, the 13th ranked Saraland Spartans (0-1), to Husky Field next Friday night.  Pinson Valley will host the Shades Valley Mounties (0-1) at Willie Adams Stadium.
