Defending 7A champion Thompson blanks Oxford 55-0

Oxford, AL – The Thompson Warriors rolled to a 55-0 shutout over traditional 6A power Oxford Friday night at Lamar Field.

The two time defending state champion and No. 1 ranked Warriors held a 34-0 halftime lead despite having a score wiped off the board and being flagged for 100 penalty yards.

The road trip was a balanced one for the Warrior offense who posted 436 total yards, 219 through the air and 217 on the ground.  The stingy Thompson defense lead the Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 10 in Class 6A to only 27 total yards in the contest.

Thompson quarterback Connor Harrell finished the route with 214 yards and four touchdowns through the air, completing 11-of-14 passes.  Lionel Cook paced the Warriors on the ground pilling up 85 yards and a score on 15 carries.  Jaylen Ward lead the Thompson receiving corps with two grabs for 85 yards and a score.  Ryan Peppins hauled in four Harrell passes for 65 yards and two TDs.

The Warriors return to action next Friday night against the Sparkman Senators (0-1) in Alabaster before kicking off region play September 3rd, on the road at Tuscaloosa County (1-0).  Oxford welcomes the Pleasant Grove Spartans, ranked No. 3 in Class 5A, to Lamar Field.
