No. 1 ranked Thompson downs Sparkman 55-0

Alabaster, AL – The top ranked Thompson Warriors (2-0) posted their second 55-0 victory of the season Friday night in their shutout win over the Sparkman Senators.  

Thompson’s offensive fireworks started early as Ryan Peppins hauled in a 39 yard Connor Harrell pass for a score on the Warrior’s first play from scrimmage.  Harrell tossed his second score of the night, this time to senior receiver Jaylen Ward on the Warrior’s next possession. 


Harrell connected with Peppins for two more scores and another to Justin Pegues to give the Warriors a 35-0 halftime advantage.   Harrell finished the first two quarters with five scores and 185 yards through the air.  

After the break, the offensive fireworks continued for Thompson as Pegues pulled down a Harrell pass and streaked 51 yards for his second score of the night.

The Warriors utilized their ground game to salt away the remainder of the contest, adding rushing scores courtesy of Lione Cook and AJ Green. 

Harrell, who completed his 50th career touchdown pass in the route, finished the contest with 270 yards and six scores, completing 15-0f-20 passes.  

Pegues lead the Warrior receiving corps with 131 yards on six receptions and a pair of scores.  Peppens added five grabs for 69 yards and three touchdowns.  

Jax Van Zandt lead the Thompson defense with eight tackles, Jeremiah Alexander added three stops and a sack.  Kendall Franklin chipped in seven tackles to help seal the shutout.  

Mark Freeman’s Warriors kickoff 7A Region 3 play next week, on the road at Tuscaloosa County (1-1).  Sparkman, who will be looking for their first win of the season, travels to Albertville’s McCord Field to take on the 0-1 Aggies.
