Top ranked Thompson blanks Mountain Brook 51-0

Mountain Brook, AL – The No. 1 ranked Thompson Warriors (6-0) extended their winning streak to 24 games with a 51-0 shutout over the Mountain Brook Spartans (5-1) in front of a packed house Friday night at Spartan Stadium.

The victory was the two-time defending state champion Warriors sixth straight over the Spartans who entered the contest ranked fifth in Class 6A.  

The stingy Thompson defense, who have only allowed 12 points through six games, held Mountain Brook to 66 yards of total offense in the contest.  Junior Peter Woods lead the Warrior defense with five stops, Jeremiah Alexander chipped in three tackles and three assists and Tre’Quan Fegans added a first quarter pick-six. 

The Warrior offense, lead by senior signal caller Connor Harrell, rolled up 505 yards.  Harrell accounted for 216 yards through the air, completing 15-of-24 passes including a pair of scores and an interception.  Justin Pegues was Harrell’s favorite target on the night hauling in four receptions for 145 yards.

Ahmari Bolden ran the ball six times for 52 yards, sophomore A.J. Green added 52 yards on five attempts.  Brandon Franklin scored a pair of rushing touchdowns while totaling 49 yards on 13 carries.  John Morgan nailed a 23 yard second half field goal for the Warriors while splitting the uprights on 6-of-7 extra point attempts.  

Mountain Brook quarterback John Colvin finished the night with 13 yards passing while completing 2-of-7 throws.  Cole Gamble added 35 yards on 19 carries.  

Thompson returns to action next Friday night, on the road at Vestavia Hills‘ (1-4) Thompson Reynolds Stadium.  Mountain Brook takes the week off before welcoming third ranked and undefeated Briarwood Christian (6-0) to Spartan Stadium October 7th.
