Lighthouse outlasts Tabernacle 42-32

Gardendale, AL – The Lighthouse Warriors came away with a 42-32 victory over the Tabernacle Torches Friday night at Mac Sanderson Field.  

The loss drops Tabernacle to 5-3 overall, 4-2 in conference play.  With a pair of conference contests remaining, Clint Chase’s Torches remain in the drivers seat for a birth in the Christian Football Association playoffs.  

The Torches and Warriors played even through three quarters until the visitors from Oneonta pulled away in the last frame to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Standout signal caller Clinton Chase turned in another impressive performance under center, passing for 162 yards while running for 97 yards on 14 carries and a pair of scores.  The junior completed 13-of-34 passes with one touchdown through the air and an interception.  

Daniel McCormick lead the Tabernacle receiving corps with 8 receptions for 80 yards.  Bryant Howard snagged four catches for 75 yards and a score while sophomore Josiah Jones made one grab for seven yards. 

Sophomore running back Troy Box paced the Torch rushing attack with six carries for 34 yards and a score.  Trae Andrews chipped in 19 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts.  

Ten Torches recored stops on defense lead by senior Logan Bartlett with 11, Bryant Howard with 10, Daniel Walton and Troy Box with 8, Jacob Beasley with 7, Able Sharp with with 5, Trae Andrews with 4 and Josiah Jones with 3.  Ethan Glass and Reed Chase added two tackles a piece.  

Box, Bartlett and Sharp each recored sacks while Howard and Andrews added interceptions for the Tabernacle defense.  

The Torches step back into conference play next Friday night against the New Life Academy Eagles (0-6) in what could be their last game at Mac Sanderson field before moving to their new artificial turf facility in 2022.
