Who will the Arab Knights face in the first round of the AHSAA playoffs?

Arab, AL – The Arab Arabian Knights have advanced to the AHSAA postseason, on the gridiron, for the 10th time in their 100 year history.  The Knights have hosted playoff games on two other occasions, in 2003 and 1993, but this will be the first time the Arab City Schools SportsPlex will welcome a postseason contest.

Who the Knights will face in the first round is still up in the air.  PrepsNet is projecting that Arab will welcome the Homewood Patriots to the SportsPlex but there is an outside chance that the Chelsea Hornets could jump into the 3 seed in Class 6A, Region 5 and make the trip to North Alabama.  Arab is locked into the 2 seed from Region 7, their opponent will officially be decided after this Friday’s games in suburban Birmingham.

If the Knights face Homewood they will bring a 5-4 overall record (3-3 in Region play) to Brindlee Mountain with wins over Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, Vestavia Hills, Chelsea, Woodlawn and Huffman.  Chelsea is currently 4-5 (3-3) and have beaten Pelham, Woodlawn, Huffman and Shades Valley.

If the Knights come out on top in the first round they will advance to face the winner of Region 8 champion and undefeated Hartselle (10-0) and Gardendale (7-2).

Arab is making their second consecutive trip to the postseason for the second time in program history.  The Knights advanced to the playoff three consecutive times in 1992, 1993 and 1994, claiming their lone Region/Area title in 1993.

Lee Ozmint’s Knights (7-2) will travel to Boaz’s (6-3) L.F. Corley Field this Friday night to close out the regular season.
