Hewitt-Trussville and Smith’s Station advance to the Inaugural AHSAA Girls’ Flag Football Championship

Montgomery, AL – The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies and Smiths Station Panthers each posted semifinal wins to advance to the first AHSAA Girls’ Flag Football Tournament Championship Finals.

Girls’ Flag Football is in its first year as a pilot program in partnership with NFL Flag and the Atlanta Falcons. Approximately 50 schools in the AHSAA participated in the inaugural season.

 The Lady Huskies knocked off Oxford 25-0, and the Lady Panthers downed John Carroll Catholic 14-7  to set the final game which will be played as part of the AHSAA Super 7 Football Championship at Birmngham’s new Protective Stadium.

The girls’ flag football finals will kick off at 3 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 1. The Super 7 Boys’ Championships commence Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., with the Class 7A state finals. The Super 7 Championships will continue Thursday, Dec. 2,  with the Class 3A, 1A and 5A finals. The Super 7 concludes Dec. 3 with championship games in Classes 4A, 2A and 6A. All games will be televised over the AHSAA TV Network and live-streamed over the NFHS Network.

The Lady Huskies, coached by Taylor Burt and Tonya Hunter, reached the semifinals with a 42-14 win over Tuscaloosa County last week in the quarterfinals. Head Coach Meg Larson and the Lady Panthers downed Wenonah 14-6 in their quarterfinal matchup.
