Sam Shade leaves Pinson Valley for Miles College

Pinson, AL – Pinson Valley‘s Sam Shade is heading back to the college coaching ranks.  PrepsNet has learned that the former University of Alabama standout will officially be named the Miles College Golden Bears head football coach at press conference Friday morning at 10:00 AM.

During two seasons at the helm of the Pinson Valley program, Shade lead the Indians to a combined 21-6 record including a 10-2 mark in region play, a 7-1 run in the post season and an AHSAA Class 6A state championship in 2020. 

Shade’s final season at Pinson Valley came to a close at 9-4, falling to Mountain Brook 30-0 in the AHSAA Class 6A quarterfinals.

Prior to accepting his first head coaching job at Pinson in 2020, the Birmingham native spent time as an assistant at Briarwood Christian, Samford University, Georgia State and a stint with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. 

“This is a pivotal moment for Miles College and its athletic program,” Bobbie Knight, President of Miles College, said in a release. “The experience, professionalism and resources that coach Shade brings will be extremely valuable to the College and the football program.”

Shade replaces former Miles coach Reginald Ruffin who left to accept the head coaching job at Tuskegee University following the 2021 season.
