Skyline advances to AHSAA Class 1A Girls State Title Game

Birmingham, AL -The Skyline Vikings will have a chance to defend their Class 1A girls’ hoops title.

The Vikings (28-8) defeated Loachapoka 57-44 in the opening game of the AHSAA’s 100th State Basketball Championships Monday’s at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena.

Blakely Stucky scored 21 points sinking 5-of-6 shots from the field and nailing 8-of-8 at the free throw line, to lead the Vikings. Gracie Rowell added 16 points, including five 3-pointers. Skyline, who never trailed in the semifinal contest, led by nine at the end of the first quarter, went ahead by double digits at halftime and pushed the lead to 23 early in the opening minute of the fourth quarter.


Kaina King added 10 points for coach Ronnie McCarver’s Skyline squad.­­­

For Loachapoka (22-9), Taylah Murph scored 22 points, Jasmyn Thomas added 15 points.

Skyline advances to the 1A championship game, set for Thursday at 4 p.m., at Legacy Arena.
