McGill-Toolen’s Barry Dunning Jr repeats as Gatorade Player of the Year

Mobile, AL – McGill-Toolen Catholic standout Barry Dunning Jr. has been named Alabama’s Gatorade Player of the Year for the second year in a row.  

The senior, University of Arkansas signee, closed out his prep career last weekend in Jackson, MS being named the Most Valuable Player of the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.  He helped lead Alabama to a 96-89 victory, finishing with 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

Dunning lead McGill-Toolen with 25 points, 18 rebounds and 3 steals in the Yellow Jackets 62-58 loss to Huffman in the Class 6A semifinals at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena. Brant Berry | PrepsNet

The 6’6, 210 pound forward lead the McGill-Toolen to the AHSAA Class 6A semifinals in 2022.  He closed out his senior campaign averaging 25 points and 13 rebounds. 

Dunning is also a finalist for the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Mr. Baskeball  and Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year awards.
