Hugh Fountain walks away from Pike Liberal Arts head coaching position

Troy, AL – One week after accepting the head coaching position at Pike Liberal Arts School Hugh Fountain is walking away.

“It is with great disappointment to let you know that Coach Hugh Fountain has chosen not to fulfill his contract with us and is no longer our athletic director or head football coach.  I had every reason to believe when he approached us a while back, and when he signed a five year contract last week, that he was completely dedicated to our program”.  Pike Liberal Arts Head of School Eric Burkett said in a released statement.

The Troy Messenger was the first to report the story.

Rush Hixon, who took over the Pike program after the resignation of former head coach Mario White hours before their first round playoff victory over Clarke Prep, lead the Patriots to their second consecutive AISA state title in 2021.  Hixon and the current Patriots staff will lead summer workouts at the Troy private school as scheduled.

Pike removed Hixon’s interim title in the summer before Fountain’s arrival in May.

Fountain is expected to accept another coaching position.
