Gardendale blasts rival Mortimer Jordan 63-21

Gardendale, AL – Gardendale (2-1) quarterback Tyler Nelson accounted for five scores leading the eighth ranked Rockets to a 63-21 victory over rival Mortimer Jordan (1-2) Friday night at Driver Stadium. 

The Rockets jumped out to a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.  Nelson finished the contest completing 8-of-10 passes for 211 yards and three scores through the air while rushing for 107 yards on six attempts and a pair of touchdowns on the ground.

Ayden Cupps lead the Rocket receiving corps with three grabs for 105 yards including an 87 yard touchdown reception. Maddox Padgett snagged a 24 yard scoring grab while Logan Quates pulled in a 15 yard touchdown pass. 


Blue Devils running back Terence Gaines scored on runs of three and eight yards.  Eli Perkins hauled in a 63 yard touchdown grab from Garret Ames accounting for the Devils three scores in the Class 6A, Region 5 opener for the two North Jefferson squads. 

Jordan returns to Jimmie Trotter Field next Friday night to host region foe Parker (2-1).  Chad Eads’ Gardendale Rockets have a week off before traveling down I-65 to face the Parker Thundering Herd September 16th.
