Hoover sails past Spain Park 24-10

Hoover, AL – First year Hoover (2-1) head football coach Wade Waldrop notched his first region victory as the fourth ranked Bucs knocked off cross-town rival Spain Park (1-2) 24-10 Friday night at the Hoover Met. 

The Buccaneer offensive lit up the scoreboard early as quarterback Brewer Smith capped a 67 yard, nine play opening drive with a 36 yard touchdown toss to Freddy Dunson.  Peyton Argent split the uprights from 45 yards out on the Bucs next possession to put the home team up 10-0 early in the first quarter.  

Spain Park got on the board in the second period on a 40 yard Alex Lloyd field goal and evened the game at 10 apiece as Evan Smallwood connected with Jonathan Bibbs from just inside the Hoover 15 yard line.  

Hoover running back Ahmari Williams tossed a 20 yard pass to K.J. Law to put the Bucs on top 17-10 going into halftime. 

After a scoreless third quarter, Williams took a Smith handoff and bolted 14 yards into the endzone with 8:17 remaining in the contest to seal the victory for the Bucs. 

Smith finished the night competing 14-of-20 passes for 134 yards with one score and an interception.  Williams lead the Hoover rushing attack with 15 carries for 50 yards and a pair of scores.  Law pulled down six receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown. 

Smallwood completed 9-of-27 throws for 117 yards and a score.  Caleb Ward carried the ball nine times for 33 yards while Bibb hauled in five catches for 80 yards and a score.  

Hoover welcomes Over the Mountain foe Vestavia Hills (1-2)to the Met next Friday night.  Spain Park travels to Alabaster to take on defending the defending state champion Thompson Warriors (1-2).
