Travis Baxley out as Pike Liberal Arts head football coach

Troy, AL – Pike Liberal Arts School has parted ways with first year head football coach and athletic director Travis Baxley.  PrepsNet learned Thursday afternoon that the Troy private school terminated Baxley for breach of contract.

Pike Liberal Arts, who made the move from the AISA to the Alabama High School Athletic Association before the start of the football season, are currently 0-3 with a tip to Port St. Joe, Florida on tap this Friday night to take on the 1-1 Tiger Sharks.

Baxley took over the Patriots program after the offseason resignation of newly hired head coach Hugh Fountain.  Fountain stepped down two weeks after accepting the Pike Lib position and eventually accepted the top job at W.S. Neal.

The move was first reported by The Troy Messenger’s Josh Boutwell.

PLAS was Baxley’s first head coaching job after serving as an assistant at Pike Road, Charles Henderson, Enterprise, Dale County and Beauregard.  During his time at Montgomery County’s Pike Road High School he helped guide the Patriots to a Class 5A state title in 2021, leading one of the most prolific defensive units in the state.

Patriots assistant Charlie Scofield has been named interim head football coach and athletic director.
